The wool

It. TKG "Fibres of sheep's fleece (Ovis aries)", animal fibre made from the horn-like keratin substance, so-called "organised" fibre, as it does not consist of cells of the same kind. The wool types are characterised by length, thickness, lustre and crimp. For properties, see the basic types Merino, Crossbred and Cheviot wool, as well as the varieties Alpaca, Mohair, Tear wool, Cashmere, Camel hair, Shiny wool, Lambswool, Yearling, Firstling and Angora wool. The wool is sold according to type designations with the capital letters A to F or G, whereby AAA denotes the finest merino wool, F a very coarse cheviot wool. Characteristics of the most important sheep wool types are stretchability and elasticity (bounce) with relatively low strength; high crease resistance of finished products, pliability, malleability, under the influence of heat, moisture and pressure; the ability to absorb moisture without feeling wet; high heat retention even when wet, permanent crimp and susceptibility to moth damage.
