Flocking Textile Lexicon
Flock fibres, which are 1-5 mm long, are charged on an electrostatic field and placed on a material coated with adhesive. This electrostatic charge ensures that the fibres are glued vertically so that an even surface is formed.

How does "flocking" of textiles work?

Application of short fibre flocks to textile backing material, mostly imitation of warp velvet or suede; adhesive masses are applied to fine fabrics in taffeta character, which hold the dusted short fibre flock material (mainly polyamides, but also short cut viscose). The adhesives are usually resistant to cleaning; the flock can be electrically erected. If flocking is done in an electric field, plush-like effects result because the flocking material falls vertically into the adhesive.
