Named after Lord Raglan who lost his arm at the Battle of Waterloo in 1862. His coat was designed in a special cut, which made it easier for him to put on the coat with one arm. The sleeve was attached at an angle to the collar seam.
The Raglan - Cut
Coat shape in which the sleeve and shoulder parts are cut in one. The raglan seam, often highlighted by quilting, runs from the neck ring across the chest and still diagonally across the back to the armhole.
