Our Top 6 Cap Types at a Glance

Snapback Cap

What are snapback caps? In principle, the cap types of snapback caps are nothing other than baseball caps, but with a special feature: the size of the caps can be individually adjusted on the back. As a rule, snapback caps have a plastic closure with press studs. However, there are also models that can be adjusted with a fabric or leather strap. Due to the large opening above the closure, snapbacks are more airy than flexfit caps and the wearer does not sweat as quickly.
Like the classic baseball cap, the casual cap style originated in the 1950s. Even today, US sports stars like Tiger Woods and hip hoppers like Wiz Kalifa and Jay-Z rely on this cool headwear. This makes snapback caps a casual it-piece yesterday as well as today. They are easy to combine and adapt individually to the shape of the head - perfect properties to be an integral part of casual looks for years to come.

Flexfit Cap

Here we have another type of baseball cap. Instead of a conventional closure, Flexfit caps have a flexible elastic band. In this way, a Flexfit cap fits a wide range of head sizes even without a closure. Flexfit Caps are available as standard in sizes S/M (6 3/4″-7 1/4″) and L/XL (7 1/8″-7 5/8″). Once you have found your size, you will be delighted with a perfectly fitting cap that can withstand any demands. The flexible elastic band ensures optimum hold even in windy conditions and jerky movements, for example during sports.

5 panel cap

The term panel refers to the body of the cap, i.e. everything except the peak. In any case, each type of cap has four individual sewn panels, one on the left, one on the right and two on the back. The difference between 5 and 6 panels is hidden on the front of the cap. Here, 5-panel caps have a large area free of disturbing seams. This makes 5-panel caps ideal for embroidery. Another plus factor: you can pack the caps in backpacks, bags, etc. without worrying. The arrangement of the panels prevents them from creasing and losing their shape.

6 panel cap

In the fashion world, the term 6-panel cap does not refer to a specific type of cap. Rather, it is a collective term for various caps that all have one thing in common: Their body consists of 6 parts. These can be arranged very differently from cap to cap, for example like pieces of cake or patched together like a ball. 6-panel caps also differ greatly in terms of fit and type of fabric. They come flat or high, narrow or wide, with thin or thick fabric. With 6-panel caps, there is definitely a suitable model for everyone.

Trucker Cap/Mesh Cap

The trucker cap, also called a mesh cap, is a widely used headgear. It originated in the USA in the 1970s, where it was made famous mainly by truck drivers. The mesh caps were available at a low price in many rest stops and were often given to truckers as a promotional gift from agricultural machinery manufacturers, motor oil or tool companies. Since the late 1980s, the cap can often be found on the heads of skaters, BMX riders or punks. Since the turn of the millennium, the mainstream has also taken a liking to the breathable caps. In the meantime, trucker caps have become an integral part of the fashion world.

There are several types of trucker caps or mesh caps. A clear distinguishing feature, however, is the fact that they are always 2/3 mesh and usually have a foam front and an adjustable snap closure on the back.

Sandwich Cap

The last model in our cap types guide is another variation of the baseball cap. Unlike flexfit or snapback caps, sandwich caps are a rather new phenomenon on the headwear market. The special feature here is the visor. As the name Sandwich Cap already suggests, there is another layer of fabric between the top and the bottom of the visor. Usually, this piece of fabric has a different colour than the rest of the umbrella. This special feature mainly serves
a visual purpose: combining the colour of the logo with the sandwich layer in the shield gives a promotional cap a distinctive professional look.
