5 Cap closure types you should know about

EmbroideryManufactory the blog
cap closure types
These include, among others:
  • Cotton, imitation leather or leather belts with metal or belt buckle
  • Plastic snap fasteners
  • Nylon belts with plastic buckle
  • Velcro fasteners
  • Elastic bands or Flexfit bands
Each type of cap closure has its advantages and disadvantages. Those who have not yet dealt with it are likely to be faced with a decision that is not easy: Which cap is the right one for me? After all, tastes and especially head shapes are different. The best way to find out is to try out caps with all kinds of closures. Put them on and see how they feel. You will quickly notice differences in wearing comfort - depending on your individual head shape, among other things.

The cap closure variants and their advantages and disadvantages

The following sections give an overview of the possible variants. It should be noted that different names are often used for the same type of closure. This can cause confusion if you are not familiar with them.

Cotton, imitation leather or leather belts with metal or belt buckle

These buckles are similar in terms of construction and handling when adjusting - the only difference is the belt material. Due to the metal buckle, they can be opened and closed like a trouser belt and admittedly also look a little like one. A leather belt in particular makes your cap look comparatively classy. However, you should also bear in mind that the buckle is a little more complicated to operate than other fasteners.

The plastic snap closure

This type of closure is now one of the classics and is usually available in many different colours. Two plastic bands on the back of the cap, one with knobs, the other with holes act as a closure. The great advantage of this technique: because the closure can be adjusted in several stages, the cap fits every conceivable head shape - exceptions prove the rule. Admittedly: You have to like the feeling of plastic on your head, or at least be able to tolerate it. If you can't, it's better to choose a different closure.

Nylon belt with plastic fastener

A very simple variant of the cap fasteners is the nylon belt with plastic clip. The buckle works according to the click & snap principle and enables quick opening and closing. Here too, if you find plastic on the head annoying, you should choose a different variant.

The version with velcro is practical, but not necessarily too elegant. Practical because you can adjust the cap to the size of your head with millimetre precision. It's also very easy to open and close the cap. The accompanying strap is usually made of plastic, nylon or imitation leather. Attention: If you have ever worn shoes with Velcro fasteners, you know that lint and the like tend to get caught in the Velcro strip. Clean the fastener from time to time. Your cap will not only look better without lint - the fastener will also do its job much more reliably.

Elastic band or Flexfit band

When viewed correctly, this is not a closure in the true sense of the word. Rather, an elastic band or a so-called flexfit band is embedded in the edge of the cap. This ensures that the cap adapts to the circumference of your head and guarantees a secure fit at all times. If you choose this closure, you should pay attention to quality. The elastic often wears out quickly with cheap goods. This is very much at the expense of wearing comfort.
Conclusion: Which cap should you choose?
In the end, it is always your own taste and personal wishes regarding handling and wearing comfort that decide on the right cap closure. It's best to choose the cap that you think offers the best overall package in terms of comfort and appearance. With the exception of the so-called fitted cap - which is available in different sizes and has no closure - you can create stylish combinations of closure and fabric for all caps. Tip: Uniform colours or two different but complementary colours usually look particularly good.
